What is indie
From BluWiki
have we ever considered: what is indie? define "indie" in haiku form?
indie EXPLAINED (by expendableyouth): 'indie' used to mean 'independent'. but one day, like, in 1998, some guy was all like 'i get no chicks', so he wrote a song about getting no chicks, and he sang it sad sounding, and the lyrics were all about like, giving up your soul, and stuff. and then this girl who read a lot of shakespeare and had an aim name that went something like "silviaplath87" started talking about how deep that song was, and from that point on, it spread like a virus because it was about worshipping yourself -- but in indie, it's not acknowledged as worshipping yourself because you're sad most of the time.
so it's 2004. indie now means trucker hats, and skinny effeminate males, and people who cut themselves, and wannabe-heroin addicts who all dress the same way, and shop 'vintage', and girls who have no sense of themselves, and generally, just a collection of self-absorbed suburbanite kids who like taking tonnes of pictures of themselves, but always call themselves ugly. yeah, it's pretty fucked up.
not only that, but indie is also starting to rip off the hiphopheads by slowly introducing shelltoes into the look -- i guess it wasn't bad enough that indie is basically just a dumbed down version of the british mod look of the 60s and 70s. you can assume, and be very correct, that indie is one of the least imaginative subcultures that exist in present day society. they are so unimaginative in fact that they are the fastest growing subculture, as it takes no talent to be indie -- at least goths need to know how to apply makeup.
on top of that, they really got nothing to complain about, so they sorta make up a lot of imaginary problems for themselves, and take all sorts of prescription meds that they stole from their dysfunctional parents. they usually think they're depressed, but when you ask them what they got to be sad about, they kind of panic, and simply give you that 'nobody understands me' cop out. unfortunately, they are too dumb to realize that everyone does understand them, and they aren't deep. they just like to take baths in their own pain.
however, this selfishness is forgivable because most of them are about 15-17 years old. they usually grow out of it by 18, when they finish high school and realize nobody likes them, but felt too sorry for them to say anything about how they should have been a miscarriage. that's why you don't really see a bunch of indie 35-year old moms walking around. this is a saving grace -- knowing they won't be complete assholes forever.
you can tell if someone is indie by looking at them. they are the kinds of people that say 'when i grow up, i want to get beat up a lot' simply by existing. they also call themselves 'losers' or 'lame' but secretly think they're cool or clever. don't be fooled.
indie is synonomous with emo -- regardless of the different selections in music, both of these people share the same soul. also, hardcore is an offshoot of indie and is no longer for angry drunken punks. back then, hardcore meant that out of 5 randomly selected people, you could beat up at least 3 of them. nowadays, hardcore just means angry indie. thusly, it's made up of sissy boys who have the soul of raging homosexual women.
[osci][ator] the way i see it is that we all choose to define ourselves in a certain manner here in indie; some facades painfully truthful, some full of spite and others with nothing more than comedic value in mind. I've studied the projection of identity for a good while now, mostly through self-observation but of course you need to be able to juxtapose observations with those made of others, as flawed as they maybe. Written text leaves a lot of room for letting your imagination goto work and clarity is not one of it's strong points in my opinion; it's the downfall of this age of communication - impersonal mediums of communication will never be able to replace spoken word and body language
But really, it's all about the n00dz
